SGGEE will be using ZOOM software to host our forthcoming virtual convention. If you've participated in any webinars during the pandemic year, you likely will have seen Zoom in action.
We have a ZOOM expert user to provide guidance and support the weekend of the convention. Depending on the options we choose, it could be as simple as a "meeting room" where everyone can be seen and heard to a "lecture hall" setting where only the speaker and moderator are seen and heard. Those decisions will be made as we draw closer to September.
As a participant, you will receive a link to click to join the ZOOM session at the proper time. You can do that using a browser window, which does not require a ZOOM account. Or you may wish to download the Zoom software and create your own free account. In that case, you click a button to "Join a meeting" and input the provided ID and password to join the sessions. SGGEE has no recommendation on which option to use.
The full video/audio experience does require that you have a camera, speakers and microphone either built-in or attached to your device. But you can also join a session using a telephone; this means that you will not see the presentations, only hear them.
And of course, you will need a reliable Internet connection to participate online.
ZOOM offers tutorials in its help center. We will highlight several of those in the coming months. But we also hope to offer our own Q&A sessions for anyone who just wants to get some experience before the convention begins. We'll send a sign-up sheet later in the summer.
